Animal Physical Rehabilitation

Tahoe pets lead unique and exciting lives. We take them everywhere with us and want them to keep going, well into their golden years. Whether your animal companion is a puppy with an injury, a kitten born with mobility challenges, a pet that had a surgery, a search and rescue dog that needs to stay in top shape, or your beloved pet that has been slowing down, our gentle and thorough approach will get the wagging tails, zoomies, purrs, and wiggles back to your furry loved one.

Meet Dr. Jenny Moe

Dr. Jenny Moe, PT, MS, DPT, CCRT, APT is the only certified animal physical therapist in the Lake Tahoe basin. She brings 17+ years of expertise as a licensed physical therapist with a background in neurology, manual therapy, pediatrics, bracing, and animal physical therapy/rehabilitation.

Dr. Jenny has over ten years of experience practicing full-time with animals, previously at a busy veterinary specialty practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. She brings a wealth of knowledge from complex orthopedic and neurologic cases, senior wellness, and those stubborn soft tissue injuries.

Dr. Jenny has special interests in manual therapy, focusing on the John Barnes’ method of myofascial release, as well as craniosacral therapy.

Jenny also brings in experience from the human world utilizing kinesiology tape, such as Rocktape, to help with alignment, support, sensory feedback, and movement re-education.

It is always fun to see how creative we can get with therapeutic exercise to help animals get back to doing the activities they love. Just like people, animals need physical therapy to work on strengthening, pain management, alignment, and function. Whether it is recovering from a surgical procedure, an injury, sports conditioning, routine maintenance for working dogs, or learning how to get the most out of those senior years, physical rehabilitation can benefit most any animal.

From Fall 2018 through December 2019, Dr. Jenny operated Pawesome PT in Stateline, Nevada. Lake Tahoe is the most beautiful place, full of wonders and adventure. However, San Francisco and the Bay Area are calling Dr. Jenny and her family back. We are sad to be leaving Tahoe, but so excited to return home to the ocean. Dr. Jenny thanks the Tahoe community for welcoming her with open arms, and truly is leaving a part of her heart behind.

Please stay tuned to find out where Dr. Jenny and Pawesome PT wind up in the San Francisco area in 2020, and contact her if you have questions about your pets in the Tahoe region.

We will be continuing with Murray Mondays, our Facebook Live series about life with senior dogs, and will be introducing some exciting new content for online audiences in the year to come as well!

Educational Background

Dr. Jenny Moe, PT, MS, DPT, CCRT, APT earned her bachelor's, master’s and doctorate degrees in physical therapy from Boston University. Dr. Moe had a wonderful career for 7 years in pediatrics before she fell in love with animal physical rehabilitation.

Dr. Moe expanded the rehab department at both San Mateo/Redwood City and Campbell SAGE Veterinary Specialty Centers and enjoyed working with veterinary specialists from all disciplines. She gained valuable experience in a wide variety of cases, from complex trauma to spinal surgeries, orthopedic surgery, conservative management, immune-mediated conditions, and geriatric care.

After Clinic Hours

When she isn’t working in the clinic, Dr. Moe participates in Ironman triathlons and enjoys the wonders of the outdoors during training. She is excited to add cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to the dogs’ training regimen.

Dr. Moe has an Australian cattle dog named Murray, a cattle dog/hound called Miko, and three cats. Her husband has pets of his own, too!

Client Testimonials

When Rango first came home with me, his obesity masked the muscle loss on his shoulder due to his arthritis. After he shed the excess fat, his left shoulder was so atrophied it looked concave -- seriously just skin draped over bones. You could see the outlines of the bones where they came together at the joint. Thanks to Jenny's awesome care, he has built up so much muscle it's incredible. You really have to look hard to notice any difference at all between the left and the right. When we started, I would have never thought that possible. Amazing! Just amazing!

Dr. Jenny has not only kept my 3 year old German Shepherd from having surgery but she also helped with her social skills. Berlin has been seeing Dr. Jenny over the course of 4 months and she went from having a horrible limp and not being able to play to now being able to swim for 35 minutes and hike for 70. Berlin is very shy and has trouble at the vet so I wasn't sure PT would work for her — but Jenny has a real talent for making animals comfortable, and even in the first session she was massaging her. To be clear this is a dog that did not let her own vet touch her for more than a few seconds. Now she is even better at the vet because she got used to all the manual therapy and she even seems more comfortable with people in general — a bonus. The space is totally different than a vet clinic, fun food and toy smells, lots of beds and blankets for lounging and of course a water treadmill. I am thrilled that I got this lucky and found Dr. Jenny, she rocks.

-Berlin's mom

In April of 2015, my basset hound Liberty Bella, who was 9 at the time, underwent decompressive spinal surgery at Sage in Dublin, California. Her surgeon Dr. Malte Schwartz recommended that as soon as she was able she should start seeing Dr. Jennifer Jones (now Moe), PT, MS, DPT, CCRT/JMJ, at Sage’s San Mateo Office. Well needless to say, after 4 weeks of strict confinement and with the help of her sling we set off for San Mateo (a distance of more than 23 miles one way from home and always in tons of traffic). Dr. Moe was well worth the trip! In May 2015, we had our first consultation with Dr. Moe as Bella was not walking so with the purchase of handicap wheels and a package of physical rehabilitation sessions we began our appointments several days a week. Bella began to respond to Dr. Moe’s manual therapy and of course the aqua treadmill! By October of 2015, Dr. Moe had Bella moderately ambulatory. Bella was able to walk up to 20 minutes nearly continuously, get up to stand independently for some time and had a reduction in spinal pain. I couldn’t be more thankful to Dr. Moe and her dedication to getting Bella back on her paws--which she has been ever since! If we lived closer to Lake Tahoe we would be continuing to see Dr. Moe regularly. We miss her, her kindness and her perseverance to helping all animals.

I have had personal experience with Jenny Jones as the PT for my older dog, Kodi, who had some orthopedic issues that were illusive and difficult to diagnose. Jenny was there with us every step of the way, making Kodi more comfortable and enhancing his quality of life for a very long time. I have dealt with many vets and animal clinicians in my lifetime of animal companions including dogs, cats, and horses, and I have to say a Jenny ranks with the best. She is not only an expert in her field, but she is a genuinely caring person who truly wants to do the best she can for you and your pet.

-Kodi's mom

Dr. Jenny is the best! She truly cares about her patients and their well being, both physical and mental. She is extremely patient and thorough with my 5 year old, bundle of energy lab Tuff! We have been through a few different therapists and we love Jenny the best! My dog looks forward to seeing her for PT visits and can't wait to get through the door! Highly recommend her.

Dr. Jenny is simply the best. She is unbelievably knowledgeable, talented, and compassionate, and she truly will love your pet like her own. The treatment she gave our dog, who was suffering from DM, was amazing. Dr. Jenny kept Moose strong, happy and healthy, when many were saying there was no hope.

I had the pleasure of working with Jenny at SAGE - she is an amazing resource! She is very knowledgeable and skilled as well as gentle and compassionate. I learned a lot from her as a veterinarian and highly recommend her services for both dogs and cats! Her new community is lucky to have her.
